Step 5: Contractor Marketing Roadmap
With steps 1-4, you’ve built your digital marketing foundation and started getting high-intent leads with digital ads. This should be bringing in enough cash flow to allow you to invest in a more long-term strategy that won’t pay out right away.
That’s exactly what SEO is. While it can take a while to see results, it can give you a significantly higher return on investment than other channels.
Plus, since you’re already driving traffic to your website through digital ads, that’ll also help you rank quicker!

Takes Time
It may take a little longer to see results from SEO, but they're well worth it!
Cash Flow First
The reason SEO is so much later than everything else is because you'll be paying monthly with no results for several months. Focus on cash-flow positive activities first!

Google uses that data to choose who to rank at the top of the search results.
SEO Tips
Google separates location-specific searches from broad nation-wide searches. Competing against large national brands is almost impossible in general searches. But if you target location-specific searches, now you're only competing with other local businesses and it becomes much easier!
Google measures a bunch of different things, but the main ones are:
- Clicks - if your customer clicks on your website based on the search results
- Time spent on your website and engagement - if your customer exits after only 10 seconds on your site, Google assumes it was less valuable than if they spent 15 minutes clicking through every single page on your site.
- If they return to Google after going to your site - Google's ultimate goal is to get your question answered. If your customer reads through your website and then goes back to Google to ask the same question, Google assumes your content was not valuable because it didn't answer the customer's question.
There's a million different factors, but in general, it's all about answering your customers questions and providing them with content that they WANT to read!
Backlinks are one of the most important parts of SEO. Basically, if another website also thinks your content will be helpful to their customers, they will put a link to your site on theirs. Google sees that as the ultimate sign that content is valuable, and it helps your rankings significantly.
The only problem - they can be difficult and/or expensive to get!
